HTC EVO First Impressions
The Sprint EVO 4G is the newest, most hyped phone from Sprint, at least until the Epic come out next month. My first impression holding the phone in person was “this thing is HUGE!”. However it’s important to note that I’ve been living with the Palm Pre for the last year – which is rather tiny by smartphone standards. The phone is fast and flash lite has been a pleasant surprise. The battery life is a bit lacking during my very curious first days. But considering the fact that I pick it up every five minutes to check if it can do XYZ, I think the real use battery life is much better than is portrayed online. The gigantic screen is a god-send for anyone used to a hardware keyboard. Typing in landscape mode is damn quick. The anticipated update to Froyo (Android 2.2) is scheduled to start rolling out next week – August 3rd. So we’ll see how that affects the common complaints of current users.
Queen – Well As Close As You Can Get In 2009
Last night we went to the House of Blues in Houston to check out the Queen Tribute Band. I have to say it was one of the best shows (if not the best) I’ve ever been to. The lead singer was incredible engaging the audience regularly, but not so much as to be annoying. He had a certain bravado that bordered on the comical at times, but felt quite authentic in many ways. All-in-all, the songs were great, the badn was awesome and the frontman was one hell of a showman. It was a great night!
Gumstix Overo
The Gumstix Overo is now available! The Overo Earth, the first model out, is priced at $149. The first available expansion board is The Summit, which s available for $59. That’s pretty cheap considering the price point of past expansion boards and the extreme utility of the Summit. Now, I’m curious as to when we’ll see a production Overo with on-board WiFi and Bluetooth. I don’t know about you but I’m excited!
